Getting started

16 questions
Do I need any experience to join OFI?+

No. Our programs are beginner-friendly and built to start from the very beginning. Curiosity and commitment matter far more than any prior background.

Do I need experience to apply?+

No. Our programs are beginner-friendly and start from the very beginning.

How do I know which course to choose?+

That’s exactly what the conversation step is for — we’ll help you find the right fit based on your goals. You can also browse all courses first.

Do I need any experience?+

None. Complete beginners are welcome and start from the fundamentals of exposure and framing. If you already shoot, you’ll sharpen real craft fast.

Do I need editing experience first?+

It helps but isn’t required. If you want a foundation in cutting, our video editing course pairs naturally with this one.

Which course should I start with?+

For most people, video editing is the ideal starting point — the foundation of modern media and the most widely needed skill. From there you can specialise. If you already love the camera or color, you can start there instead.

Do I need experience or my own equipment to enrol?+

No to both. Our courses are beginner-friendly, and you can start with what you have.

Do I need editing experience before this?+

No. We start from the basics of the interface and build up. If you want a broader foundation in the craft of cutting alongside the software, our video editing course pairs naturally with this one.

Which program should I start with?+

For most people, Video Editing is the ideal foundation — the most in-demand skill and the base for almost everything else. If you're drawn to the camera or to color, you can start there instead.

Do I need experience or my own equipment to start?+

No. Many of our best students started with zero experience and a lot of curiosity. You’ll work on our machines during class, so you don’t need a powerful computer to begin — though most students invest in one once they start taking paid work.

What makes OFI different from other film schools in Nepal?+

Small classes, real footage, working industry mentors, and genuine job support — combined in one hands-on, career-focused place.

Can I take more than one course?+

Yes. Many students stack complementary crafts — for example editing plus DaVinci Resolve plus color grading — to become complete post-production professionals.

Are the courses hands-on or theory-based?+

Overwhelmingly hands-on. You work on real footage and real projects from the start, guided closely by industry mentors in small classes.

What will I have at the end?+

A showreel of real edits cut in Premiere — weddings, music videos, ads — plus the speed and confidence to walk into a studio interview and prove it on their machine.

Will I have work to show at the end?+

Yes. You finish with a showreel of real edits — weddings, music videos, ads — you can put straight in front of a studio or client. That portfolio matters far more than a certificate.

What if I want to go beyond editing?+

Editing pairs naturally with color grading , motion graphics and cinematography . Many students start as editors and grow into a fuller skill set — explore it across our courses .

Courses & software

23 questions
Can I take this on its own or only with editing?+

Both. Cinematography runs as a standalone course from Rs. 25,000 , or you can add it on top of your video editing path so you learn to shoot and cut as one skill set. Contact us for current intake dates and the latest pricing.

Will I learn editing and colour too?+

This course focuses on shooting, but you’ll see how footage flows into the edit and grade . Take those courses too for the full pipeline.

How is it different from photography?+

They share fundamentals — light, lens, exposure, composition — but cinematography adds movement, time and shooting for the edit. Many students take both; see our photography course .

What’s the difference between this and the Resolve course?+

The Resolve course teaches the whole application — editing, color, audio, delivery. This course goes deep on the art and craft of the grade itself, the colorist’s eye. They complement each other.

Is color correction the same as color grading?+

No. Correction fixes an image so it looks right; grading shapes how it feels. You’ll learn correction first, then the creative grading that builds a look.

Is grading more art or technical?+

Both, and that’s the appeal. The scopes and tools are technical; the decisions are creative. We teach you to be confident with both.

Resolve or Premiere — which should I learn?+

Premiere is more common in Nepali editing jobs; Resolve is the leader for colour and all-in-one finishing. Many professionals use both, and we show you how they relate so you’re flexible.

Is the free version of Resolve enough?+

Yes, for learning and for most work. We teach on it. You’ll also learn exactly what the paid Studio version adds and when it’s worth buying.

Is this just colour grading, or full editing too?+

Both. You’ll learn to edit, grade, mix and deliver in Resolve. For colour as a deep specialism, it connects to our colour grading course .

Can I get hired knowing Resolve in Nepal?+

Yes — and especially as a colourist, where trained people are scarce. Editors who can also grade and finish in Resolve are some of the most in-demand in the country.

Isn’t motion graphics already in the video editing course?+

The basics are — our video editing package introduces motion graphics so you can build simple titles and graphics. This is the full course that takes you to a professional, hireable level.

Which software will I learn?+

Adobe After Effects, the industry standard, plus how it links into Premiere Pro so your graphics flow straight into a real edit.

Do I need to be good at drawing?+

No. Motion graphics is about timing, type and design sense more than illustration. If you have an eye for what looks clean, you can do this.

Will I learn photo editing too?+

Yes. Editing is part of the course — you’ll cull, correct and retouch in Adobe Lightroom so your final images look professional, not just well shot.

How is it different from cinematography?+

They share fundamentals — light, lens, exposure, composition — but photography is the still image and cinematography is the moving one. Many students take both; see our cinematography course .

Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve — which should I learn?+

Premiere is the most widely used editor in Nepali studios, so it’s the safest first tool for getting hired. Resolve is growing fast, especially for colour. Many editors end up using both, and we show you how they relate.

Do I need to buy the software?+

You’ll work on our machines with Premiere installed during class. For practice and paid work you’ll eventually want your own Adobe subscription — we’ll explain the current options and student pricing.

Will I learn colour and motion graphics too?+

You’ll learn Premiere’s built-in Lumetri colour and Essential Graphics. For deeper work, those connect to our colour grading and motion graphics courses.

Can I really get hired knowing Premiere?+

Yes. “Premiere Pro” is one of the most common lines in Nepali editing job posts. Studios need fast, reliable Premiere editors constantly, and trained ones are scarce.

Do I have to follow the module order?+

Within a program, yes — modules are sequenced so each one builds on the last. Across programs you're free to start where you like and stack several, though we'll always suggest a sensible path.

Do I need my own laptop, camera or software?+

No. You can start with what you have and train on our equipment. We'll guide you on what's worth buying as you grow, but a lack of gear should never stop you from beginning.

Can I see the full detail for a single program?+

Yes — every program above links to its own course page with the complete breakdown. You can also message us for a printable syllabus before you enrol.

Which software will I actually learn?+

Primarily Premiere Pro, since that’s what most Nepali studios and agencies run on, with hands-on time in DaVinci Resolve too. You’ll leave fluent in the workflow real employers expect.

Fees, schedule & equipment

11 questions
Do I need my own camera or expensive equipment?+

No. You can start with what you have. We'll guide you on what's useful as you grow, but a lack of gear should never stop you from beginning.

Do I need my own camera or laptop?+

What does it cost?+

When can I start?+

Get in touch to find out about starting your application and reserving your seat. Classes are small, so early is always better.

No. You’ll shoot on our gear during the course. Most students invest in their own camera once they start taking paid work, and we’ll guide you on a realistic first kit.

Do I need a special monitor or computer?+

What computer do I need?+

How long does the course take?+

The program takes you from beginner to employable one real project at a time. We keep cohorts small and paced around real work rather than a fixed lecture schedule — contact us for current intake dates and duration.

Careers & job support

15 questions
Will I actually be able to get a job after studying here?+

That's the entire point of how we teach. You'll build a real portfolio and employable skills, and our strongest, most committed graduates receive direct job support and referrals.

Is film and editing a realistic career in Nepal?+

Yes. Demand for editors, cinematographers, colorists, and content creators is growing across weddings, music, advertising, and digital media.

Will this lead to a job?+

That’s the goal of everything we do. You’ll build real skills and a portfolio, and committed top graduates receive job support and referrals. See the careers page .

Does OFI guarantee a job to every student?+

No — and we’d be wary of anyone who promises that. What we guarantee is genuine support for students who earn it. Top performers are placed in work, and committed graduates are referred to studios and production houses that are hiring.

What do I need to do to qualify for job support?+

Pass all your assessments, maintain full attendance, and perform consistently across every activity. The support goes to students who show real commitment and skill.

What kind of jobs do graduates go into?+

Roles across editing, cinematography, colour and motion — in wedding films, music videos, advertising, social and digital content, corporate production and more. Many also freelance or build their own businesses.

How does the portfolio help me get hired?+

In this industry, your work is your résumé. A strong portfolio of real, finished projects is what convinces employers and clients to hire you — and you build one throughout your program.

Is there really enough film work in Nepal?+

Yes. Demand for skilled editors, cinematographers, colourists and content creators is growing across weddings, music, advertising and digital media.

Is there really work for shooters in Nepal?+

Yes — constantly. Weddings, music videos, ads and corporate shoots all need skilled camera people, and good ones are scarce. It’s one of the steadiest freelance markets in the industry.

Is colorist a real job in Nepal?+

Yes, and a scarce one. Production houses, wedding studios and agencies all need grading, and trained colorists are hard to find — which keeps the work steady and the rates strong.

Will these courses help me get a job?+

That's how they're designed. You build employable skills and a real portfolio, and committed top performers receive direct job support and industry referrals.

Is there work for motion designers in Nepal?+

Yes, and it’s growing fast. Agencies, brands and creators all need motion now, and trained animators are scarce — which keeps demand and rates strong.

Is there really work for photographers in Nepal?+

Yes — constantly. Weddings, events, portraits, products and social content all need photographers, and it’s one of the quickest creative skills to start earning from.

Is the certificate recognised, and will it get me a job?+

You earn an OFI certificate of completion, but employers in Nepal hire on portfolio and skill. That's exactly what this curriculum is built to give you — and top graduates receive direct job support.

Can I really make a living editing in Nepal?+

Yes. Weddings, music videos, advertising, YouTube and corporate work all need skilled editors constantly, and the trained talent is scarce. A good editor can freelance, join a studio, or build a client base at professional rates.
